New version of Q9

Hi, all. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else on the boards, but I searched for it, and I don't think it has. Version 1.2 of the game Q9 has just been released. I downloaded it, and have been playing it tonight. Philip has made a bunch of changes to it, my favorite one being that enemies can now fall into pits. Also, you get more rocks, shields, and strength as bonus items, and less extra points, which in my mind, are basically useless. He's made the boss stronger at the end of it. And dream fields have a higher chance of giving you strength rather than taking it away. I hit a Dream field deliberately 3 or 4 times, and it always gave me more strength. Still a gamble, but one I'm more willing to take now. I know there are other changes, but I can't think of them. Just thought I'd post that here for anyone interested.

dream field? I don't recall that being mentioned in the manual, nor do I see that in the list of sound effects. I don't have the full version of the game, so I might be missing out on it.

It's a fortune field I think.

Does anyone know how to get another language q9 release? Everyone talks about them, but they don't seem to be there.

Dang it, I'm an idiot. Yes, it's a fortune field. My bad.

Also one of the new change is the fact that we can use the sicret weppon during game play but i didn't find out how yet.
If anyone knows please let me know.
I finished the game on easy and now i will also finish it on medium and see if the 4th weppon is going to unlock but i am not sure.

Maybe, and I don't have the registered version, but it could be an item that you have to catch.

Thanks to the forum on audiogames.net forum i know now how to unlock the sicret weppon during game play.
Below i will give a spoyler so don't read if you want to find out yourself.
To unlock it you will have to do nothing during one of the bonus rounds.
You will get a lazer gun with 10 batteries to start with but during the game you will pick up more.
But lazer batteries don't appear much often and with each bonus item you get only 3 batteries so it is better to keep them for the death world and the boss himself.

Yeah. I beat Q9 on Easy and Normal finally so I've seen both endings. The second ending was actually pretty amusing. But I wouldn't have been able to do it if it hadn't been for the fact that I got extremely! lucky with a few Fortune Fields and at one point had 4000+ strength on Normal.

Post 10 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 08-Jan-2011 17:32:29

I just ran into a fortune field like fifty times and ended up with eight hundred forty eight strength (Yep, I got attacked a bit before that). Then I had the incredibly good fortune to fall down a pit. Wonderful! Twelve seconds with 848 strength. I still haven't registered it.

Post 11 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 08-Jan-2011 21:15:13

Yeah, you still do have to be careful with that.

Synthesizer, are you new to the game, or no?

Post 13 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 09-Jan-2011 19:09:07

No, I was just playing insane difficulty. Jump, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I make it over them most of the time.

Post 14 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 10-Jan-2011 11:55:44

If you're falling in you're eitherjumping too soon or not tapping the directional arrow enough. That's my guess at least.

Post 15 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 10-Jan-2011 19:01:30

I like the game so much... especially when I can jump backword over a pit and usually make my enemy fall in. Can get annoying though when the bears are one shot away from dying and then fall down a pit, wasting my amo. I also like it that there are more items.

That definitely helps.

Post 17 by Shepherdwolf (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 11-Jan-2011 19:30:53

Heh heh, I had about 4500 strength when I beat it on insane. ...or rather, that's what I started with. Finished the final boss with about 1300 left. Death World level 3 is a slaughterhouse. I don't think it's literally possible to get by that without 100 strength or more, and even then I think you'd be on borrowed time. I say this because I had to deal with two boars, a leopard, two bats (not dangerous, mind you), three wolves and a couple of minidemons without even taking a step...they just came charging at me when the level started, and I lost about 95 strength defending myself without a deus shield. Thank goodness for those...on the easy difficulties you don't need 'em, but on the higher levels you've got to hoard 'em like mad.

Yep, those can be lifesavers... I suppose... I never really heard the mini demons do anything to Philip on his really long demo, they just stood there and let him beat them up.

Post 19 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Thursday, 13-Jan-2011 23:29:12

I don't think Philip gave them the chance. Either that or they just din't move at all. I've occasionally had that happen to me as well, though not often.

YOu guys are good. i can't get passed the cave world. I know. I'm dumb. LOL

Post 21 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 14-Feb-2011 17:41:24

I should really order it. I've beat it in demo about...let's see...73 times. Anyway, I really like it.

Post 22 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 18-Feb-2011 21:51:09

The cave world can be tough since it's a varitable minefield of pits. But beyond that it's really not that difficult if you're careful.

Post 23 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 19-Feb-2011 1:16:39

Yay! I'm excited! I LOVE that game!

Post 24 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 19-Feb-2011 13:53:10

It
s definitely got a lot going for it despite not featuring any real unlockables.

Post 25 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 19-Feb-2011 16:51:06

Yep. I find that my problem is usually not pits, as long as I'm not playing insane. Then, i don't jump far enough about half a percent of the time. It's the animals, especially in the cave world on hard or insane, that give me problems. Believe it or not, I had four bears attack me in the cave at the same time.

I have a question. In the old version of Q9, I could have sworn there was a way to turn off the background music. While the music is really good, it can get distracting, especially when playing the game on harder levels. However, in this new version, I don't see any setting to turn off the music. Do any of you know if there's a way to do this? Or, am I just dreaming that the older version had a way to do it?

Post 27 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 21-Feb-2011 19:01:17

Press page down a lot, and it will go down to almost inaudible.

Post 28 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 21-Feb-2011 21:44:56

Thanks for the reminder. You're right, that's how it was in the old version, too.

Post 29 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 26-Feb-2011 18:28:11

Yeah. I don't ever remember being able to actually turn the music off, although that would have been cool.

Post 30 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 27-Feb-2011 20:27:36

What really bugs me, is not the music, but sometimes the ambiencces. I swear Philip put some footstep sounds into the ambience for the jungle just to mess me up:). To tell you the truth I often lose some bullets in battle zone levels two and four for a similar reason--did he have to use people talking for a level in which your enemys talk?

Post 31 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 28-Feb-2011 6:50:23

The only level that the enemy talks in, to my knowledge, is the boss level, and I don't mind that. I don't mind the footsteps, either. How would you know when you were at a pit if not for the footstep sounds? Yes, the pit noise gets closer, but if you pay attention, you have two steps in the mud as a cue when to jump. The steps are not so pronounced that I've ever lost battles because of them. Just my thoughts.

Post 32 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Monday, 28-Feb-2011 17:49:42

I always like as much ambiance and little music in a game really: Some of these audio games, including you people on here who have made or contributed to them, are really very amazing when it comes to what the sounds sound like. The Battle Zone is really industrial / the winter is realistic, and when I did piddle around with the demo of Q9, I thought the sounds were really good. Hearing someone talking in a city type environment makes it sound more real and less plastic.

Post 33 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 28-Feb-2011 19:14:16

I wasn't talking about q9 there, but battle zone. Any, the step sounds just make me have some useless club swings because I always use it esclusively during the jungle world.
